Sony Ericsson has launched the W910i Walkman mobile phone in the Indian market. This latest entrant to the company’s Walkman series of phones offers two very unique features called Shake Control and SensMe.
The W910i sports a large 2.36 bright crystal 262,000 TFT screen, offering users a great multimedia experience. The feature-rich phone weighs just 86gms and is only 12.5mm thin.
The Shake Control feature of the Sony Ericsson W910i allows users to better control their music. So, just by flicking the phone one way or the other, you will be able to skip to the next/previous track. Whereas, if one shakes the phone back and forth, this will shuffle the playlist. Besides music, users will also be able to play motion-sensing games on this phone.
The phone’s SensMe feature offers users a new way to browse playlists, allowing them to choose songs and create playlists according to their own tastes, rather than by artists or album. Tracks on the phone are presented in a unique visual that shows each song as dots in a matrix and places them according to tempo and style.
Yet another great feature is the auto rotate display function that automatically adjusts the W910i handset’s display according to the way the user is holding the phone. All the user has to do is turn the phone to see the image or video automatically rotating according to the orientation of the phone.
The Sony Ericsson W910i phone offers a new media browser which places all the phone’s media in one central area, making it every easy to access music, videos or podcasts from one single icon on the phone menu.
Plus, the new Media Manager PC programme allows users to organize music, photos and podcasts on a PC and transfer them either via USB to a phone or to a MemoryStick Micro card using the bundled USB adaptor.

Design

The LG VX6000 is Verizon Wireless's flagship model. Unlike GSM phones, the VX6000 was specifically design to work with Verizon's CDMA network. This phone is incompatible with other CDMA networks.
CDMA varies with GSM and TDMA fundamentally based on how voice is transmitted through the airwaves. The inherent technical properties of CDMA makes voice quality more resistant to interference and noise. That results in cleaner and clearer voices.
The VX6000 voice quality is much better than GSM phones. It has to do more with the technology and service rather than to phone itself. But regardless, superior nonetheless.
So if CDMA is the better technology why didn't it take off? Well, simply put, because the rest of the world already had already settled on a standard. GSM's appeal was its ability to store customer information on a SIM card. So swapping phones was effortless. With Europe and Asia firmly embracing GSM, CDMA came too late and was always the minority. So the VX6000 is not compatible when outside the Verizon network. To many this may not be what they are looking for. If a world phone is needed, then GSM is the way to go.
From a hardware perspective, the VX6000 is stunning. With color internal and external screens, the VX6000 is sure to be a hit. As for ring tones, the phone is CMX 3.0 compliant. Midi files can to be converted to 16 bit mono wav and used for ring tones. As opposed to midis which is like storing a sheet music of notes to play. By using wav files, VX6000 has the ability to not only play music, but use voices, or real music from CDs.
Additionally, with the popularity of built-in cameras on cellular phones, the VX6000 does not disappoint. In a market filled with camera phones, the VX6000 is the first one to be released on the Verizon network. A built-in 640 x 480 pixel, 330k pixel resolution, CMOS camera is attached to the back. The camera as a whole performed well, but where it really shines is the versatility of the functions. In addition to a 4X digital zoom, the phone also comes with a wide variety of image adjusting filters and tools. And for the playful side, custom frames to add to your photos are available too.
So with all the great features what's not to like about the VX6000? Well... for one, the difficulty in sending content to your phone. Verizon has made it very difficult to transfer files from a PC to the VX6000. Coincidentally, it is extremely easy to use the built in BREW platform to download Verizon's online content... at a fee. Undoubtedly, people that buy this phone want to take advantage of all the colors and multimedia features. And if you want to customize it, it's going to take a couple bucks.
Another thing to consider is that the VX6000 does NOT have analog. It only runs on digital CDMA 800 / 1900 bands. So if you do frequent traveling to rural areas and use analog, then this will be a big setback.

ESPOO, Finland – Nokia today launches the latest C5 device, an inexpensive touchscreen smartphone with a couple of neat features that may well pique your interest if you want a new device that’s simple to use but covers all of the essentials for modern-day phones. The device has a 3.2-inch touch display and now features Wi-Fi, for fast internet access without the need or expense of a data plan. It also features a compass and assisted GPS for use with the latest version of the free Ovi Maps hands-free navigation service, now featuring public transport support and location sharing through social networks. Like many recent Nokias, you can put your most important contacts directly onto the homescreen so you can call, message or chat them up in just two taps. The C5 has a 5-megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom, but no flash.

It measures 105.8 mm x 51.0 mm x 13.8 mm (L x W x H) and weighs 93g – that makes it a similar size to the (imminently) forthcoming C6-01, and quite a bit smaller than the Nokia N8 or C7. It comes with up to 40MB of user memory and support for MicroSD cards up to 16GB. The talktime is quoted at 11.5 hours for GSM use and 4.5 hours using 3G. Standby time is estimated at 24-25 days. The operating system is Symbian^1 (aka. S60 5th edition touch-edition).

Nokia C7 – the smartphone for everyone

FARNBOROUGH, England – Creating a smartphone for everyone, such as the new Nokia C7, isn’t without its challenges. Sure, it shares much of the same architecture as the new Nokia N8 and incoming Nokia C6-01, but it’s still an individual device in its own right. Consider that it’s being sold through many network operators around the world, that it’ll be used by people from multiple cultures, who speak myriad different languages and you start to get a picture of the complexity involved. We caught up with the man behind the plan, Tim Allen, the product manager responsible for bringing the Nokia C7 to life.

Texting is a big part of the Nokia C7 users’ interaction with the device and Tim says it was vital to get texting just right on the Nokia C7 touchscreen. So the project team implemented a new method of haptic feedback, using a linear vibra to offer the feedback instead of using a traditional rotary vibra (the vibra is a mechanical device which causes the vibration you sense from the haptic feedback). This enabled them to better tune the response so it was just right for the volume of texting Tim and his team felt users would be doing. Having played with the device for the past couple of weeks, I was surprised I hadn’t turned the haptics off – something I normally do with a new touchscreen device as I’m not really a fan of that kind of feedback. “It works, then” was TIm’s response.

Although the device is now going on sale across the globe, the work doesn’t stop there. The team are already nearing approval stage for the first software update and the second one is already in the works. They are monitoring initial feedback, to ensure that where possible, key features early users may be looking for are part of the road map for software updates. Late in the development process the team weren’t happy with the portrait QWERTY keyboard so it was left out of the final build. Since then though they’ve continued development and although Tim tells us it isn’t quite there yet, it will be very soon. Expect to see it in an upcoming software release.


Tim believes his role is “to represent the consumer” and ensure all the things he believes they will want in a device, appear in a device. Resources are finite though, and deadlines need to be met, which is where tough decisions need to be made. It’s Tim and the team who need to make those calls and he says “it’s a question of finding the sweet spot, not trying to do everything for everybody”. Having played with the C7 for a few weeks now, I’d say he’s pretty much got it right. What do you think? What else would you like to see?

Nokia C3 launches

GLOBAL – The Nokia C3 is the first of three new messaging devices to break cover today. It’s also the first Series 40 device to come sporting a full QWERTY keyboard, but that’s not the only trick up its slender sleeve. Designed to put messaging and social networking in the palm of your hand this tiny tyke comes packing access to your favourite Instant Messaging, social networking and email accounts, all courtesy of Nokia Messaging. Read on after the jump to find out what else is in store.

With Nokia Messaging comes one click access to Ovi Mail (for easy email account creation right on the device) and Ovi Chat (for keeping in touch with your friends). The Nokia C3 also boasts conversational SMS chat, so you can keep on top of your text dialogue and you’ll find your favourite contacts right there on the homescreen, where you’ll also see news and alerts.

Not content with just being a social butterfly the C3 also boasts Wi-Fi connectivity, a two-megapixel camera, 2.4-inch screen and support for up to 8GB of storage on a microSD card.

The C3 will be available in the second quarter of 2010 in a medley of colours including golden white, slate grey and not forgetting hot pink and is expected to retail at about €90 before taxes and subsidies.

Samsung introduced its second 8 Mp phone M8800, known under the code name Brensson. This is the first device in a series of top camera Pixon. New notable for the fact that the first touch mobilnikom from 8 MP camera. The most similar realization interface used in Communicator, Samsung WiTu (model i900), known in the global market as Omnia. In doing so, M8800 is a normal telephone, without Windows Mobile, but the system is fully maintained similar widgets, similar interface cameras, etc. Even the motion sensor works perfectly with the same animation.

M8800 Based on Qualcomm MSM6281, has 100 MB of internal memory and microSD expansion slot with support for "hot" replacement. The screen is in line with the i900 - it is 3.2 "element with a resolution of 240x400 pixels. Made it to TFT-technology, it is good quality, but neidealen, the image looks grainy. Tech wireless communications before Bluetooth. Nowhere did not delsya and FM-tuner with RDS. But Wi-Fi in the M8800 for some reason, no - quite an unpleasant moment against a backdrop of more affordable analogue of LG (a question of KC910, of course). Not the most critical moment, but for some audiences it will be decisive. GPS is used only in the annex camera to record the coordinates of shooting.

The camera - the most interesting, that is, in the M8800. This CMOS 1/3.2 ", the macro 10 cm, digital zoom 4x. Maximum resolution photography - 3264x2448, filming - 720x480 and 640x480 at 30 fps.

Samsung, Zet

Samsung’s new touch phone, Zet is unveiled. It has Samsung 6410 processor run with 800MHz, 5-mega pixel camera, 3.1’’ WVGA AMOLED display and Dolfin browser based on web kit.
Samsung makes it a non-smartphone by adding Touchwiz 2.0 UI and Samsung OS. It is impressed that it supports MS Exchange Active Sync that we only use on smartphone even though not concerning DivX Video play function. And it also contains On Board Navigation function with A-GPS. There is no source about release date.

Phone Arena got Samsung Omnia HD which has 8 mega-pixel camera and 3.7’’ AMOLED display and announced review on it. It supports HD resolution(720p) record and play. And it is impressive that it has unbelievable better life and suitable size, not too big and small. Samsung India has launched five new mobile phones in the Indian market. Samsung’s brand Ambassador Aamir Khan was also present at the launch event. The five models launched yesterday included SGH-i450, SGH-G800, i550, D880 and J210. The new mobile phones from Samsung offer a rich multimedia experience along with the latest features and sleek design. Samsung SGH G800 offers high quality imaging with a 5 mega pixels camera offering up to 3x optical zoom. The model is priced at Rs 21,799.
Samsung i550 has a 3 mega pixels camera, in-built GPS receiver, easy navigation and support for Bluetooth audio streaming. The Symbian S60 powered i550 is priced at Rs 25,000.
Samsung D880 is powered by 3.2 mega pixels camera and offers Stereo FM radio as well. The dual GSM SIM phone with a 2.3 inch wide LCD screen is priced at Rs 13,799.
Samsung SGH-i450 comes with a price tag of Rs 15,000. The phone offers great sound quality with its “Mobile Theatre Experience” powered by ICE Power amplifiers from Bang & Olufsen.
Samsung J210 is the cheapest among the recently launched mobile phones from the company. Priced at Rs 6,649, Samsung J210 offers to megapixel camera, Bluetooth music streaming and FM recording. This model may become very popular as it is fairly priced, has stylish looks and offers lots of features.

Boris Boege of Skylab Mobile Systems writes to tell me that their GPS mapping tool "Spot for Blackberry" now supports all Bluetooth enabled Blackberry devices in combination with a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
Former versions were only compatible with BlackBerry 7520 and BlackBerry 7100i. Both of those models have an integrated GPS receiver.
Now, Spot for BlackBerry has been rev'd to support the BlackBerry 7100 Series, the BlackBerry 8700 Series as well as the BlackBerry 7250 and BlackBerry 7290.
"Spot for Blackberry" costs $49. A time limited demo version is available free for download.
